The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (DEEE) at University of Khartoum was established in 1958, as the first department for teaching electrical and electronic technologies and science in Sudanese Universities. The first batch enrolled in the department in 1961 and the head of the department in that time is professor Chart (Britain). Also all the teaching staff was foreigners and most of them are Britain.
In 1970, Professor Ali Mohamed Ali became the head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department as a first Sudanese nationality to occupy this position and gradually the whole staff became a Sudanese nationality. Since then, a lot of changes happened until the Department gets the current structure. Now, the DEEE contains three sub-departments for the basic disciplines in electrical and Electronics Engineering which are: Electronics Engineering and Computer Systems Sub-Department, Communications and Systems Sub-Department and Electrical Engineering Sub-Department.
The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEEE) is located within the Faculty of Engineering at the central campus of the University of Khartoum in Khartoum City. It was the first department in Sudan to offer B.Sc. degree program in electrical engineering and it is rated as the top choice of Sudan Secondary School certificate and other equivalent certificate students for the last twenty years within the University of Khartoum, which is also the top choice between all universities in Sudan. The majority of the Department students are amongst the top 100 scores in the Sudanese University entry qualifications.
