Mining Engineering

The idea of established department of Mining Engineering began in earnest in the late 196s following the outburst of miming activities in the country. Proposal was set out with the help of a professor from the USSR who was invited by the faculty of Engineering especially for this purpose.

In 1985, the Idea of establishing a department of mining Engineering was renewed when a delegation from the faculty of Engineering Visited the USSR within the agreement between the Faculty of Engineering, U of K and the Friendship University in the USSR. The latter promised to help in the establishment of the department and the provision of required equipment to be the nucleus for basic laboratories.

In 1989 at an invitation from the Faculty of Engineering, professor Bront, head Department of Mining Engineering at the Friendship University took part in setting out proposed curricula for the department, using teaching materials of some university in the USA and the UK.

In 1990, the Vice Chancellor of the U of K visited Moscow and signed an agreement with the Friendship University. The agreement included established of Department of Mining Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering U of K. The head department of Mechanical Engineering was chosen to follow up implementation. In June 1992, a staff member was appointed, with responsibilities of head department, to follow up the establishment of the Department of mining Engineering. Now it is at the forefront of mining engineering education in Sudan.
